Richard Allan Horning
President & Chairman of the Board

Richard Allan Horning is a member of SNR Denton’s Corporate Practice and Venture Technology/Emerging Growth Company Group. Richard represents a wide spectrum of technology clients, from the classic “garage-based” start-up to Fortune 500 multi-nationals throughout Silicon Valley and around globe. Richard specializes in counseling high technology companies in all stages of development on domestic and international issues, including financing growth and development; securing, protecting and licensing intellectual property rights; supply and distribution relationships, including antitrust and unfair competition considerations, and dispute resolution affecting technology driven industries including international arbitration of technology focused disputes.

Sarah Carpenter 

Vice president & Co-Treasurer

Sarah, a native of Norway, has 19 years of professional and executive experience with both large global and smaller local Silicon Valley organizations. Consistently on the finance and accounting side of the house, she has lead teams in organizations as diverse as an energy company to a large international software company and a venture capital supported technology start up organization. She has both public and private company experience building and managing complex and multi national budgets and strategic plans. Always partnering with various stakeholders within the organization to ensure alignment of their financial targets and operational requirements fit within the overall strategy and goals of the company. Sarah’s keen analytical sense as well as practical operational experience, provides for a driven and experienced leader with excellent communication skills.  Furthermore, her work throughout the years managing to various financial goals provides for strategic understanding of any overarching framework while not losing sight of the details critical for success.

Staffan Nilsson 
Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors

Staffan Nilsson has 38 years of experience from the global high tech and telecommunications markets in senior management positions. He has a proven track record of developing and closing multi-million dollar contracts. He provides a broad operational experience having worked for Ericsson a large cap company and seed stage Silicon Valley companies running multi-national organizations targeting the global markets. Staffan provided Ericsson with close to a quarter century of leadership support in multiple roles of business management, marketing, sales, and market operations. Staffan held senior management positions for Ericsson in Sweden, Latin America, Middle East and the US (Texas and California). As an entrepreneur and founder of LeapHead Communications, Staffan supports Silicon Valley and European technology companies. He is also attached to a couple of Silicon Valley VC funds as an investor. He is serving as Director of the Board of US Friends of Chalmers. Staffan earned his Executive MBA from Stanford University, extensive management/ TQM training from Ericsson. He holds an MScEE in microwave engineering from Chalmers.

Eilif Trondsen 
Chair, SIG Entrepreneurship & Learning

Eilif Trondsen is Research Director at Strategic Business Insights (SBI)in Menlo Park, California. The focus area of Dr. Trondsen’s research and consulting at SBI (formerly Stanford Research Institute) is the use of technology for innovation, learning and performance improvement. He has 32 years' experience at SBI and at SRI International, leading or contributing to a variety of projects for U.S. and foreign clients in the private and public sectors. At SRI and SBI, Dr. Trondsen has held the position of Research Director of the Business Intelligence Program, the director of the Learning on Demand program, and has also led SBI’s research initiative around 3D immersive technologies. In his tenure at SRI and SBI, he has given numerous presentations and autored many publications on various eCommerce, eLearning, innovation and virtual-worlds topics.

Kent Håkanson
Treasurer

Kent Håkanson is a managing director with SVB's Private Bank focused on providing personal financial solutions for the venture capital and private equity industries. Håkanson focuses on providing liquidity via capital call lines of credit and other flexible loan structures with exceptional personal service. Håkanson also works with clients for financial and estate planning, wealth advisory and tax services with our strategic partners. Prior to joining SVB in 1993, Håkanson worked in private banking at Pacific Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. Before his private banking career, he was an institutional securities trader with Charles Schwab in San Francisco.

Christian Olsson
Chapters Officer

Christian, who holds the position Vice-President Marketing & Alliances at ByteShield, Inc., has extensive marketing, alliances and sales management experience from the Silicon Valley startup scene including ByteShield identity access management and digital rights management, Marratech (Google) videoconferencing, Protegrity database security, and TenFour (FoxT) email security. Christian has also served as the Swedish Trade Commissioner to Australia where he assisted Swedish hitech companies while entering the Australian market. His career started with 14 years at ITT Flygt, the world's leading submersible pump manufacturer, where he held sales & marketing management positions in the US, Sweden and Australia.

Annika Steiber
Chair, SIG Mobile

Annika Steiber has experience in areas such as Mobile, Professional Services, Innovation/ Entrepreneurship, and Sales & Marketing. She has an extensive industrial background and has worked in leading positions for Swedish and American companies in Business Development, Sales and Marketing for 16 years. In addition, she has started her own start-up in the area of wireless broadband. She is currently living in Silicon Valley where she has specialized on innovation in major firms by researching on the topic and by working as an advisor within the area. Mrs. Steiber has a M.Sc. and soon a Ph.D. from Chalmers University of Technology and her key interest is to foster relations between the Nordics and Silicon Valley.

Mats Oberg
General & Social Events Officer

Öberg currently leads the hardware architecture team for optical data storage ASICs at Marvell. He received a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lund University, and a Ph. D. in Communication Theory and Systems from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of California, San Diego. Mats also hold a University Certificate in Economics and Business Administration from Lund University. After receiving his Ph. D., Mats joined Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. in Santa Clara, CA, working on signal processing for magnetic and optical data storage.
